How We Work

We Make the Process of Finding a Senior Living Community Easy

1. Meet with you

Senior Living Help for Mom meets with you to discuss our services and our process.

2. Conduct a needs assessment

We determine current and future care needs, taking into consideration the senior’s social, physical, intellectual, emotional, financial, and medical needs; location; financial resources; and caregiver resources. This reduces the chances of making a wrong placement, which saves you expense in the long run.

3. Recommend senior living communities

Depending on the senior’s needs, we offer a selection of Assisted Living, Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care, Independent Living or Continuing Care Retirement Communities, Nursing Homes, Home Health Care or Respite Care providers. Our recommendations include pricing of all services, which forms a baseline for negotiations we conduct. Armed with all the information, we help you narrow the field of possibilities of senior living facilities.

We make every effort to support the local Richmond market. All Help for Mom employees and vendors are from the Richmond marketplace.

4. Accompany you on tours

We don’t let you visit facilities alone. Accompanying you on tours of the senior care facilities you are considering, Help for Mom keeps sales people and others at bay so you can make an unpressured evaluation. We ask the uncomfortable questions and can be as involved as you choose us to be.

5. Help you select the right senior living community

Once you have narrowed down the senior care options to your top choices, we tour the facilities again so you can see what day-to-day life is like there and how various services and/or scheduling may impact your loved one’s experience. We leave no stone unturned, making you aware of factors you may not know to consider like consumer and regulatory complaints, security systems, safety features, and heating and cooling systems.

So you completely understand the contract/lease agreement before you sign, we provide a second set of eyes in reviewing these documents as well as the services and amenities packages. Then we negotiate rent discounts, renewal rates, apartment refurbishing, move-in dates and more. This important step protects you from what you don’t know. See our comprehensive checklist.

6. Review care plan

Before you sign on the dotted line, we conduct a strategy session to double back, evaluating all the features, amenities, price points, staff, apartment/room size, etc. of the senior living community you’ve chosen.

7. Follow up on life in the senior living community

Even when the senior is living in his or her Independent Living, Assisted Living, Nursing Home, Memory Care, or Nursing Home facility, our job isn’t finished. We visit to assess the placement and make sure your loved is comfortable and well cared for in their new environment. We remain involved for as long as you need us!

Senior Living Help for Mom is able to offer our services free of charge thanks to reimbursements by senior communities and other health care providers participating in our network.
